Pieces of Self

Judged by others, often harsh
The words they speak.
Unspoken thoughts that reveal more than mere conversation

She tries to please but in that effort
Too many pieces of self surrendered.
Why not leave these folk behind?
Because all friends are hard to find.

She seeks the lining of that cloud
The One that holds a silver shroud.
She sees him clearly, standing there.
It is with him she longs to share.

“Make the others disappear”
Save her from a world of fear.
She understands this can’t be so.
It’s up to her the truth to sow.

With head bowed down
She tells of wrongs
The shame is there
Her story long.

It comes to this…
Afraid of risk.

She fears that in the tales she spins
The One she loves will not forgive.
So once again she clears the path
Begins anew and hopes that this time…

Tell no lies for they do haunt. Take the hand he offers
And with him run.
