Bonfire

And as the dying embers fade
She wonders what he did today.
A spark flares up and with that light
A simple wish released to night.
Lofting to Orion’s belt,
Her course set right, all hands are dealt.

Within that tiny shot of fire
New hope for all her hearts desire.
Alone in darkness save for one
A distance spanned, new life begun.

She turns to see her path well lit,
But finds first step hard to commit.
She views the bars around her cage
And screams aloud to voice the rage.

Confinement…
not known before.
What was content
Is now locked door.

Then from the north she hears her name,
Cowers down to hide her shame.
He holds her face and with a kiss
Embodies strength, “Fulfill the wish”.

A hand shoots out from her cocoon
And in her soul a simple tune
The beat she knows, One, two and three,
That spark that flew, is now her key.

The wind still tosses her about
But deep within there is no doubt.
Her savior only lent a hand
To guide her to a path not planned.

So, spark and flame into the night
She dreams of him and of the sight
When embers died and fire flew
Her soul released and born anew.
